Constant Crashes
« on: January 11, 2010, 08:17:41 PM »
Hi,
My clan runs a 32 slot Zombie/Warcraft server, which runs fine when we dont have that many players on, although whenever we exceed the 25 player mark, we experience frequent crashes. This might be due to too many visual effects, and i have come to ask if anyone could edit our racelist so that there is less visual effects. Thanks in advance!

Do you want no effects? Or just less?

Also we have a new site, for future questions go to warcraft-source.nl

Hi, Spark posted this for me, because i was too lazy to do it myself lol.

We would like less effects so that it don't lag up the server..
Some effects can stay on, but some effects on there are just stupid..
It would also be nice to have no effects upon spawn (when the game re-starts the round)

Little effects are fine.. but we mainly want the big ones gone, the ones that totally lag out the server.. the ones that come up from your feet and pretty much cover your whole body.
If you can define which effects are big or not... If you can't then just get rid of some effects and ALL the ones in the Hell Pride race, as that race is just crazy for effects..

Thanks a lot... Appreciate it :)

I could do it for you, but you could just do it yourself, in the race DB file, just delete where it says skill1_sfx "blah blah".

Delete where it says Blah Blah.

as he said yeah, Just do "skill(number)_sfx" "0" and there will be no effect, and less lagg ;)

Also...The longer the SFX code the more likely it will be more complex... So you might want to start with those, the shorter ones are prolly just like beams or lasers and shouldn't cause to much lag/crashes.

If you still need help let us know and ill take a look at it, just try to delete some first and if it still crashes ill go through and look at them.

Awesome, thanks. I had a feeling it was something to do with the sfx
But wasn't 100% sure, so i thought it would be best to ask beforehand :)

Thanks again. ;)

It is unlikely that it is the effects?
Start with what are the error messages in your log ?

most likely a bad loop that is clamping, or some sort of buffer overflow.

Can come from one crappy race or one crappy skin or one crappy piece of coding

Either way deleting some major effects will def. help server stability when theres a lot of people online and a lot of effects going off xD
